Memorial Day:It’s More Than a Day Off

I just wanted to take this time to talk about Memorial Day. Now I love a good barbecue! There is something about pulling out the grill and cooking up a few hotdogs and hamburgers and spending the Memorial Day weekend with family and good friends. Some spend the holiday catching up on a few Z’s and I have a few friends of mine that like to spend their Memorial Day weekend in the stores trying find that big summer sale and hoping to find a huge bargain.

But Memorial Day is bigger than a sale or a barbecue. Although many of us will be barbecuing or shopping, a great deal of Americans will be mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Memorial Day is a day that commemorates US men and women who died while in the military service. Many people observe this holiday by visiting their loved ones at cemeteries and memorials and also by flying the American Flag at half-staff. It’s important that we don’t forget what Memorial Day is meant for.

Memorial Day Thank You

My Dad was in the military and I have a few friends that were in there and some that are currently serving now. I thank the Lord that none of them were ever harmed and remain safe. But even if you have never lost anyone, we must remember those that have left us, defending our country.

So while you’re out enjoying this holiday, however way you celebrate it, please make sure you say a prayer to the ones that this holiday is meant for. If you ever cross paths with someone in the military, make sure you thank them, reach out and shake their hand and appreciate them because without them we would not be able to enjoy the freedom and luxuries with have now.

Happy Memorial Day!
